GASEK’s innovation replaces fossil fuels with wood gas

This October, the Finnish company GASEK Oy will launch a product that will replace the use of oil and natural gas as fuel in industrial steam and heat boilers. The innovation that can turn wood chips into gas will result in enormous savings.

The GASEK HEAT GPU 500 plant, to be launched in October at the Energia 12 trade fair, offers two significant competitive advantages: it is environmentally friendly and cost-efficient. Using wood gasification technology will also result in considerable savings, as the ever-increasing fossil fuels can be replaced with affordable and renewable wood chips.

The megawatt hour price of wood chips is currently about four times cheaper than light fuel oil. For example, a megawatt plant could save well over 400 000 Euros a year if oil is replaced with wood gasification.

Adven installs the plant to its customer

The GASEK HEAT GPU 500 unit can be attached directly to the existing oil boiler: the burner of the boiler is changed and the complete wood chip and gasification units are brought to the location. Adven, a company dealing with energy solutions, is currently finishing the installation of the first plant based on the GASEK HEAT solution in Tornio.

– Adven wants to offer their customers custom-made and environmentally conscious energy solutions. Based on the experiences so far, GASEK’s gasification technology looks extremely promising and it has aroused a lot of interest in our customer base,” said Olli Holopainen, the Investment Director at Adven Oy .

Emissions-free solution for renewing the energy production

GASEK is an expert in wood gasification and a pioneer in gasification technology. The company that has offices in Reisjärvi and Oulu, has used the gasification innovation developed over 30 years to develop and commercialization of CHP and thermal power plants. In addition to existing patents, GASEK’s technology has ten international patents pending.
– The upcoming sulphur directive will require clean energy production starting from the beginning of 2016. Based on the requirements received from our customers, we designed and manufactured a market alternative to fossil fuels, based on a renewable technology. Customer feedback has been positive and we believe this solution to be suitable for a very large part of our customer base to renew their energy production, said Kauko Väinämö, CEO at GASEK Oy.
GASEK will present their new HEAT product at the Energia 12 trade fair at Tampere on 23.–25.10. at section B131. This trade fair is meant for the professionals of international energy production and technology.

GASEK is one of nominated companies for best cleantech solutions

Search for the world’s best Cleantech solutions – 10 Finnish companies compete internationally has begun. And GASEK is among those who are reaching for it.

The contest is organized by the Global Cleantech Cluster Association (GCCA), an association for the most eminent international Cleantech clusters. The Finnish Cleantech Cluster, coordinated by Lahti SBP, is one of its founding members. GCCA’s Global Cleantech Later Stage Award sifts out the most promising later stage Cleantech companies from all over the world.

The ten contenders from Finland are: Forchem (biofuels), GASEK (biofuels), Valopaa (energy efficiency), Savo-Solar (solar energy), There Corporation (smart grids), Wello (wave and tidal energy), BMH Technologies (waste management), Liqum (water supply and sewerage), The Switch (wind energy) and Eniram (transport).

A group of leading risk investors and entrepreneurs from all over the world select the award winners that represent the best in clean technology. The winners will receive publicity on the international investment markets and an excellent networking opportunity.

The finalists will be announced this fall and the winners will be announced in November at an international clean energy conference in Savannah, GA, USA.
